Naval Academy ends Affirmative Action; Hegseth to speak to Midshipmen today; so far, 900 books in Nimitz Library under DEI review.
While I do acknowledge that Pete Hegseth is the Secretary of Defense, am I wrong to consider him, and Trump, the ultimate clowns?
The Naval Academy, my alma mater, has officially terminated affirmative action in selecting candidates for admission. Yes! We need the best and brightest to be military leaders and no other considerations should be taken into account. But, in defense of how far the Academy has come since I entered there in 1980, the leaders produced have been exceptional not in spite of diversity, but because of it. The active pursuit of diversity representation in the ranks of our leaders does more than elevate those typically overlooked in selection processes, it also helps the rest of us learn to see the world through other eyes, other experiences, other worldviews.
Hegseth is incapable of seeing other perspectives. His worldview is informed, limited, and constrained by a faith that sees men as god-ordained leaders of the house, the office, the military, the nation. But it's more than that, it's religious indoctrination and subordination on steroids that believes only they should rule over the nation, women, and children.
Hegseth's theology is based on that of Doug Wilson, who preaches a chauvinistic theology filled with anger toward those who do not accept them or their ways. Who see the world and any government as being subject to them and their rule and oversight - like the Ayatollahs of Iran who preside over the national government.
Hegseth and his ilk believe that only they can set the nation on the right path. They believe that all academic endeavors should be based on their interpretation of the bible and those books, resources, programs, and standards that do not are to be erased and removed. It's from this perspective that Trump and Hegseth make decisions: based on the premise that only white men are the spiritual and natural leaders over all they see.
So yes! I consider Hegseth to be a joke, a dangerous joke at that. And so too is Trump.

Thanks so much for the heads up on the secretary's appearance today at the academy. You know, I'd like to believe I was selected to enter with our class and that I graduated on my own merit. I'd be devastated otherwise. Quota-filling serves to undermine what I/we have worked for. and earned. That's me. I get what you've been saying and it is legitimate. I do understand and respect your views.! G
